DANCE rehearsals for the musical are already underway. Senior Erica Lohman is assisting director Ms. Davis in choreographing and teaching the dance routines.

As many students know the fall musical was announced towards the end of last year. The fall musical is “Hairspray,” which is set in 1960’s Baltimore, Maryland. It is centered around the plump teenage Tracy Turnblad, who wants nothing more than to dance on her favorite dance show, The Corny Collins Show. In her quest to reach her dream, she realizes the unfair reality of segregation and decides to fight for the integration of the TV network.

“I really enjoy the message that is sends,” said Malik Hamilton, 12. “It sends the message that we can be apart and come together to be an amazing group of people.”

The show will be directed by Ms. Davis. She hosted audition workshops on Tuesday, August 2 and Wednesday, August 3. The auditions were then held on Thursday, August 4 and Friday, August 5.

“I’m definitely excited for opening night,” said Ms. Davis. “I cannot wait to have audiences see how much hard work the cast has put into this show – and we’re only a few weeks into rehearsal. The talent and effort is truly exceptional. second photo to use

Ms. Davis continued, “Theater is very much about life lessons. Characters traits like integrity, courage, commitment, and affirmation are all a part of theatre. I’m seeking to equip students with these virtues not merely for future productions, but also for a honorable life beyond theatre. That gets me excited.”

After long consideration she posted a 22-person cast list.

With performances set to start on November 17, the cast has a great deal of work ahead of them.
