Caraval

Zyaria Hatcher, Staff Writer

The book “Caraval” is a novel written by Stephanie Garber. There are three books in the series, with a mix of romance, adventure, and mystery. The book is directed towards young adults, but many adults will also find it enjoyable. Each page will leave readers wanting more and will keep them at the edge of their seat from the suspense lurking on the next page.

“Caraval” is a story about two sisters who yearn to escape their cruel father. Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful and harsh father. Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her to a person she has never met. As a little girl, Scarlett would write to the Carnival Master every year, but now Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval are far-away.

These hopes come back to life when, with the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show.

“When I started reading Caraval, I thought I would get bored of reading it, but every time I turned the page I was more and more intrigued,” said Cadence Gee, 9.

At the beginning, Scarlett is told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an act and that nothing is real. Whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over and her sister disappears forever.

I would rate this book a 10/10 and the reason for this rating is because it is easy to catch onto and understand, the characters all have good development and when reading, it is like was like i was in the story. The setting is very creative. From Scarlett’s love story to the mystery and thrills, it is a good read and readers won’t regret reading it.
