Hancock County Scholarships
More stories from Carly McWilliams
November 1 marks the early action deadline for many colleges in Indiana, including Butler University, Purdue University, and Indiana University Bloomington. For many colleges, this day is also the deadline for applications to be considered for merit scholarships, which are financial awards based purely on academic achievement.
While this day is the end of one scholarship journey, it also marks the beginning of yet another quest for college tuition money. The Hancock County Community Foundation recently released information on their 2018 scholarships, and applications officially open on November 1.
Scholarships are available for both in-county and out-of-county students, and the value of these scholarships totals over $290,000. There are specialized awards for Mt. Vernon students, as well as students involved in National Art Honors Society, student government, and 4-H. Scholarships can also be directed towards students interested in a specific major or career, including education, nursing, and building trades.
All scholarships offered by the foundation require two letters of recommendation and the student’s current academic information. Most also ask for an essay or written statement relating to the future goals or personal characteristics of the student. The deadline for application is February 1, 2018, at 4:00 pm.
For more information, the 2018 Scholarship Guidebook is available to view on the Hancock County Community Foundation’s website.
