Lauren Pilkington, Staff Writer

Earth Day is celebrated in 180 different countries around the world. Each year it is celebrated on April 22nd.

On the topic of Earth Day, some facts about how much is wasted every year are:

  • More than 100 billion pieces of junk mail are delivered in the United States each year alone.
  • The U.S. buried or burned more than 166 million tons of resources in landfills and incinerators last year.
  • Half the world’s tropical and temperate forests are now gone.
  • More than 2 million people globally die prematurely every year due to outdoor and indoor air pollution.

Here are some simple tasks you can do to help preserve the Earth

  • The three “R”s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle)
  • Turn off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth
  • Pick up your trash/Dispose of your trash the right way
  • Refill your water bottles after you use them
