As someone who has never seen the first “Devil Wears Prada” movie, I still really enjoyed watching the sequel, “Devil Wears Prada 2.”
Going into this movie, I expected it to do what most sequel films seem to do, and try to appeal to the fans of the first movie so heavily that it feels more like a nostalgia trip than an actual sequel that builds off of the plot of the first movie. This film definitely did have its moments where there were some jokes made that were not understandable since I had not seen the first movie, but that is okay and was expected. I did not expect to know everything, I just wanted a new story and the creators of this film definitely delivered on that front.
My favorite part of this movie was the costume design. All of the outfits that were worn, even those by extras in the background, felt like time was put into them and it was really interesting to see as someone who is fairly interested in fashion. It is evident that the design team genuinely cared about dressing everyone nicely and truly representing the designer brands that were featured.
The comedy and dialogue were genuinely funny, too. My entire theater burst out into laughter multiple times and that was a really cool experience. I do not remember the last time I saw an entire audience collectively loving a movie and laughing at the moments when the audience is supposed to laugh.
Overall, “Devil Wears Prada 2” was a genuinely good film. If I had watched the first one, I probably would have enjoyed it even more, but the story explained things well enough that I did not feel lost at all during the movie. If I had watched it at home, my rating would likely be lower, but I am going to give this movie 8.75/10.
