Running is a fast paced activity that requires lots of energy from the heart, muscle and lungs. Though it puts strain on the body, it still offers many health benefits.
First, running can increase lifespan, with studies showing that for hour of running adds about seven hours to lifetime. However, this benefit has a cap at around four and a half hours of running per week. Even though the benefits cap at four and a half hours, the sweet spot is around two and a half hours per week.
Next, running consistently increases lung and heart strength. The more someone runs, the more efficient their body becomes at oxygenating the bloodstream and getting oxygen to muscles that need it. Running also decreases the risk for cardiovascular mortality by 30 to 40 percent.
In addition to these physical benefits, running also has many mental benefits. Running at least helps to improve mood and bring an increased feeling of satisfaction in life. It also helps to reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Taking time out of the day to take a run will not only build a healthy body and mind, but it will also lead to a longer and better life.
