The Strokes are an incredibly popular New York-based indie band who have been on hiatus since 2020. In April, they announced their seventh studio album, “Reality Awaits,” along with the lead single for the record, “Going Shopping.”
Fans have been anticipating this announcement since music festival line ups for Coachella and Bonnaroo, which feature the band, were released.
“Going Shopping” has received some criticism online because of their frontman, Julian Casablancas’s use of a vocoder and heavy autotune.
Despite their popularity and the hype behind the album, their lead guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr., has been under fire online because of alleged conversations with underage girls via Twitter DMs. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, The Strokes have yet to put out a statement about the situation.
However, due to the excitement behind the release of the new album, most of the controversy has been swept under the rug and The Strokes have not replaced Hammond Jr. in a live setting.
