One of the end of the year events that many juniors and seniors look forward to is prom. This year, it was called “Dance the Night Away” and took place at the Crane Bay Event Center in downtown Indy on April 25.
Unlike last year, there were no metal detectors and check in was a simple process due to the gracious teacher volunteers that took time out of their day to help with monitoring and check in.
There was a large amount of food options such as sliders, fries, pretzel bites and little dessert cups. There were also waiters who walked around and cleaned up forgotten trash. They also replaced the food out if it got low.
This was my first prom and it was a lot of fun. In my opinion, I felt like the good music came in two waves. At the very start, it seemed like nobody knew any of the songs. Then the music changed into songs everyone started to know and dance to before everyone started to drift away from the floor when the music became dry again.
Where the music really picked up was during the group dances like the “Cha Cha Slide” and the “Cupid Shuffle.”
After Brady Webber and Carrigan Johnson were announced as prom king and queen, there were two slow dance songs provided. I did not know them that well, but I still appreciated that there were a few dances that couples could sway to.
The event center was quite big and even had an outside section where I liked hanging out with friends when the atmosphere got suffocating or the music got stale.
At the very end of the night when people left, they had to take a breathalyzer test. The line moved quite quickly to let everyone get out smoothly.
Overall, prom was so much fun. The Prom Committee should be very proud of the effort they put into the dance. The dance was beautiful and was a lot of fun for a first timer. I cannot wait for next year’s prom.
