Good sleep quality improves the body’s immune system, mood and overall health. Sleep quality affects day-to-day life greatly. Learning ways to improve it is important. Ways to enhance it include having a consistent sleep schedule, removing screens before bed and finding a calming activity to do before bed.
Establishing a sleep schedule regulates the body’s internal clock. This can be done by shifting sleep schedule in small increments such as 15 minutes per day until the goal time is reached. Something else to help with this is to keep this schedule on the weekends too.
Removing screens 30-60 minutes before bed allows the brain to relax. The blue light produced by phones, computers and TVs distract the brain and stop melatonin production. Removing the stimulating content before bed will boost melatonin production and remove distraction from the brain.
Lastly, finding a calming activity before bed such as reading, taking a bath or listening to soft music can relax the mind and wind the body down after the day’s activities and stress.
There are many things that can be done to assure that sleep is as good as it can be, and it all starts hours before bed.
