The MVHS theater department is preparing to take the audiences somewhere over the rainbow with this year’s spring musical, “The Wizard of Oz.” After weeks of rehearsals, set building, set painting, costume design and dedication, the cast and crew are getting ready to bring the classic story of Oz to life from the 16th of April to the 19th of April.
This musical follows Dorothy, who is a young girl swept away from her house in Kansas by a powerful tornado. She is then transported to the magical land of Oz. Along her journey down the yellow brick road she meets many memorable characters like the Tin Man, the Lion, and the Scarecrow. Together they travel to meet the mysterious Wizard in hope he can grant their wishes and return Dorothy home.
The musical will feature many well-known songs from the movie like the iconic, “Over the Rainbow,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Ding Dong.” These songs, as well with many other songs in the musical, aims to create the original feel of the story while showing the hard word and talent of the students.
Grace Frishkorn, a sophomore who is playing a tree, expressed her feelings towards the musical. “The leads are doing amazing practicing their lines and the little kids are so adorable. There is a dog named Copper who is playing Toto and I’m excited to see what he can do.”
