Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested February 19 in Sandringham, England. He was arrested for suspicion of misconduct in public office after the investigation into the Epstein files.
Authorities are investigating allegations that he shared confidential government trade information with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as the U.K’s special trade envoy.
According to the Metropolitan Police Service, the former prince was held for 11 hours of questioning before being released “under investigation.”
He has not been charged, but police have conducted searches of his former home at Royal Lodge in Windsor and his current home Norfolk.
“The law must take its course,” King Charles III said in a statement, showing his “wholehearted support and cooperation” with the authorities.
Mountbatten-Windsor currently is eighth in line to the throne however, a recent poll found that 82 percent of people believe that he should be removed. Australia and New Zealand, have also shown their support of removing him.
Many consider Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest to be good news for victims. The family of Virginia Giuffre, who previously accused the former prince of sexual assault called it, “a step in the right direction.”
