American Football, one of the pioneers of the Midwest Emo genre, announced their fourth studio album titled “American Football (Lp4)” in early February right after they announced a vast international tour. This album will be the band’s first release of music since the release of their 2019 album “American Football (Lp3).”
The band has been silently teasing this project since January with social media posts and the rebranding of streaming services. The first teaser was posted to Instagram on January 21, and it was a video of a distant trumpet being played over a beach-esque landscape.
The band then posted the tour announcement which was tinged red, a color the band has never used before, which is where the online speculation began that this tour was going to accompany an album release. Then they posted a clip on all social media platforms of two band members playing trumpet and piano respectively with the caption “The One with The Piano.” After that the band posted a teaser which showed the new album cover being plastered on a wall.
Then came the actual announcement that the album was coming. The release date for the album has been set for May 1, and as of February 25, the lead single “Bad Moons” was released. The band is making a stop in Indianapolis on August 13 at the Old National Center as a part of their tour for this album.
