“Octane” is an album released by Don Toliver. The album has 18 songs and is 49 minutes long.
Throughout the album, most of the songs share the same topic of love. While the subject matter can get a bit repetitive, each song has a vastly different instrumental sound, which helps break up the repeated theme.
I think the best part of this album is how each song has a different speed and style of beat that really matches the vocals. Some good examples include: “Secondhand,” “K9,” “Rosary,” “Gemstone,” “Call Back,” “Excavator,” “Rendezvous” and “Opposite.”
The artists featured on this album include Yeat on “Rendezvous,” Rema on “Secondhand,” Travis Scott on “Rosary,” Teezo Touchdown on “All The Signs” and SahBabii on “K9.” The featured musicians also blend really well with the beat and with Don Toliver’s voice, which also matches each beat respectively.
My top three songs from this album include “K9,” “Call Back” and “Rendezvous.” “Call Back” is my favorite song from this album. It has really nice sounding vocals and I like the repetition of lyrics. The song is short, which fits well with the tempo.
“K9” is also a good song, but Don Toliver’s part was rather bland. Some of his lyrics also just do not make sense, which throws off the vibe of the song. Though it is redeemed with SahBabii’s part, which really brought the song together.
“Rendezvous” was an overall good song. Don Toliver and Yeat really highlighted each other on this track. Their vocals and lyrics also blended well together. I also enjoyed how the instrumental was more dark at the start, but then it switched to be more light and upbeat.
I really enjoyed listening to this album. It has a nice mix of styles that truly blend well together. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who is open to different styles of R&B and rap.
