Dogs are cute, loyal and full of snuggles. They’re often called man’s best friend. Although people do not seem to wonder why that is.
Scientists have proven that dogs positively affect our brains. They may help improve physical and mental health. Putting aside these advantages, dogs are life-long pets even if their lifespan is significantly shorter than a human’s.
First and foremost, dogs help relieve stress. This is why people choose dogs as service animals. Dogs are able to interpret people’s emotions and comfort them when needed. The American Kennel Club shared the story of Jug and De’Angelo, a Combat Religious Programs Specialist and his pet dog. The war veteran suffered severe PTSD and depression, leading to panic and anxiety attacks. His dog, Jug, was able to calm De’Angelo by leading him outside as a distraction.
Secondly, dogs help people physically. Depending on the weather, dogs usually need two walks a day. By taking them for walks, people are more active. The daily activity reduces risks of heart conditions such as high blood pressure. According to a study conducted in the United Kingdom, walking dogs can also prevent increased heart rate. Lowered risk of cardiovascular conditions and daily physical movement increase the life-span of a person.
Thirdly, dogs make people less lonely. They are affectionate and loyal animals. Dogs will stay by their owner’s side until their death. They love their humans regardless of the things they have done and will not judge them. They will follow their owners around and protect them from threats.
Dogs really are a great companion to have. The furry creatures are beneficial for a person’s overall well-being and are without a doubt the best companion a human could ask for.
