Our school has many different cafeteria lunches that are served each day. Some of these meals are much better than others.
One of the best lunches is the Asian bar. It is served every other Monday, and is a favorite among students. This meal allows for the option of General Tso’s chicken or Orange chicken. It also comes with a side of fried rice. The chicken in this lunch is very good. General Tso’s offers a bit more spice than the Orange chicken, but both are delicious.
Another one of the good school lunches is the Bosco sticks. This lunch consists of two breadsticks filled with cheese inside. It also comes with marinara sauce on the side. Students have the option of a variety of different fruits to go with this lunch. Bosco sticks are served every other Friday. This lunch is another fan favorite.
Joey Kagwanja said, “Bosco sticks are my favorite lunch.”
One more popular school lunch is Big Daddy’s Pizza. This school lunch used to be served every Wednesday. However, due to popular demand, Big Daddy’s Pizza got its own lunch line and is now served every single day. This lunch is very popular among the students because of the variety. Students can get cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, or buffalo chicken pizza. These options rotate every few days. Students can get any side of fruit or vegetables.
Evelyn Lowe said, “It’s pretty good for school lunch, one of my favorites.”
Of course, most of the lunches are pretty good, but they are not all created equal. Some of the lunches just aren’t made with as high quality ingredients
The mac and cheese bar is one of the lesser school lunches. Students typically do not order this one as often due to the strange texture of the cheese and the meats that come on top of it. Students have their choice between pulled pork or shredded chicken. The shredded chicken has a weird flavor, and the pulled pork is overwhelming. The mac and cheese bar is served on Fridays.
One other bad school lunch is the pasta bar. This school lunch used to be very tasty when they had the regular spaghetti. However, it was taken away in the second quarter of school. The pasta bar now offers fettuccine alfredo and rigatoni. These two different pastas have strange flavors and weird textures. They are not popularly purchased by students as many of the students tend to avoid the hot food lines when this lunch is served.
Out of all of these lunches, there are the ones that I feel are the best and the worst. These lunches were judged on flavor, texture and how popular they are.
I do enjoy the school lunches, however I wish that the school would serve some better pasta options. It would be nice to have spaghetti and meatballs back, or even just a different variation such as a lasagna. The school could also provide more nutritional options, like a healthy type of soup or even a chili. Still, Mt Vernon supplies some delicious meals for the students.
