There are many different types of fragrances in the market for men. They can range all the way from light, fresh and citrusy, to dark, sweet and gourmet. In public, or even at Mt. Vernon High School, I find myself smelling notes that completely contradict the weather or environment.
As someone with over three thousand dollars spent on colognes and hundreds smelled, I consider myself experienced with scents, and will be giving both budget-friendly and higher-end recommendations for each occasion.
For those who just want a bottle or two that will work year-round, I completely understand. There definitely are fragrances that work in any weather or time. They are often fresh and spicy, with pepper or bergamot included.
My favorite budget-friendly cologne to wear year-round is “Afnan 9 pm.” Which is normally around twenty five dollars in comparison to its inspiration which goes for around a hundred dollars. This is inspired by “Ultramale” by Jean Paul Gautier, but in my opinion, performs even better and has a vanilla note that helps it work well in colder climates.
On the higher end going for around two hundred dollars, “Bleu de Chanel,” “YSL Myslf Le Parfum” and “Creed Aventus” are all fresh and spicy fragrances that smell great year round.
Summer and spring fragrances are often light, citrusy and can be oversprayed. The most common mistake I see during the warm seasons is people wearing fragrances that are too sweet and overbearing for the heat. If this rings a bell, this is how to prevent giving peers headaches.
My favorite budget-friendly warm weather scent is “Rasasi Hawas.” This smells like green apple, citrus and a beach day. It can be picked up for about forty dollars and it is a really good price point for its quality.
On the higher end, “Imagination” by Louis Vuitton has a really luxurious “soapy” smell that is really nice in the spring and summer. This goes for $90-495 depending on the size and place you buy it.
“Le beau Le Parfum” by Jean paul Gautier is another great scent for the warm months. It smells like a pina colada, due to the coconut and pineapple notes in it. It also performs great and only needs a few sprays. Pricing range for this is around $100-170
Finally, my favorite types of cologne are the fall and winter scents. I love vanilla, and that is one of the most common notes in these fragrances. On the budget side, “Cremo Spice and Black Vanilla” is a really good pickup that is even available at Walmart. Also “Lataffa Khamrah” has a nice deep and woody scent. These both range from $25-50.
On the higher end, “Angel Share” by Killan and “Parfums de Marly Althair” are really good, but pricey. Top notes for “Angel Share” are Cognac, cinnamon, and Tonka bean and has a price range of $210-$275. Top notes for “Parfums de Marly Althair” are cinnamon, cardamon, orange blossom, and bergamot. It goes for $225-290. These colognes are good for people who want a unique fall or winter scents.
All in all, those who are wearing cologne daily are already ahead of a lot of people, and my opinions are only subjective. Hopefully these recommendations can help others who don’t know what to wear achieve more confidence and compliments.
