Two members of Mt. Vernon’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, or FCCLA club, had a warm clothes drive for children in the community. This drive collected all types of children’s warm clothes including hats, gloves, coats, socks and boots.

Starting January 12, this drive ended on January 28. Organizers collected over 70 items of clothing from students and staff. Drives like the warm clothes drive not only benefits the Mt. Vernon community, but also provides students with the opportunity to learn how to be a leader and be more involved in their community.

To get more student involvement with the drive, FCCLA offered the SRT class who donated the most clothing a pizza party on Friday, January 30. Mt. Vernon’s essential skills class succeeded in this. They contributed a total of 20 clothing items to the drive.

Giving to the community can make a huge difference. The children who receive these clothing items will have more tools to learn and develop comfortably. These clothing items also give children in the community a chance to enjoy the colder months rather than see them as a burden.

Ensuring that all members of the community are properly provided for can make a huge impact. The items collected from this drive will go directly to the community via The McCordsville United Methodist Church and the Mt. Vernon Mini Marauders Preschool.

This project was presented as a need to FCCLA members by the Mini Marauders Preschool which was looking for warm clothing items for infants through age 6. The Methodist church is also always open for receiving items which includes warm clothes of all sizes and food donations as well. The preschool can be contacted by phone and the church can be contacted by phone or in person.
