Track and field is a very versatile sport that is mostly associated with running, but there is more to it than that. Track and field events can be grouped into three different categories: running, jumping and throwing. All of the events are very physically demanding, requiring endurance and heightened coordination.
The most physically demanding events are in running, specifically sprints and distance running. Sprints require lots of body coordination and physical strength. Distance running requires much more endurance physically.
Distance running requires so much endurance because runners have to maintain high speeds over a longer period of time, which can cause a lot of lactic acid buildup. However, that does not mean they are the only challenging events.
Other challenging events include pole vaulting and the triple jump. Pole vaulting requires the athlete to convert horizontal speed to vertical height by exploding off the ground and contorting over the bar.
The triple jump is considered challenging because of its physical strain on the body, as it puts intense pressure on the lower half of the body.
Among MV track athletes, the most commonly deemed hardest events are the 400m, 800m, 3200m and pole vaulting. The 400m is a challenge because it requires one to keep a fast pace constantly. The 800m is like the 400m, but one has to go slower in order to preserve stamina. The 3200m is also a challenge because of how much endurance one needs to complete it. Pole vaulting is challenging for different reasons though. It requires lots of strength and coordination to pole vault correctly.
There is not one event that can be called the hardest, because each event has different challenges that affect people differently.
