Mt. Vernon played against Shelbyville grizzlies at Mt. Vernon on December 16. The game started off with Mt. Vernon winning the tip, giving the ball to Luke Ertel, senior. Ertel went straight to the drive, then stopped ready to do his pull up.Shelbyville was on defense with the Marauders already heading off with a good start. Maxwell Vise, junior, posted up in the paint. He set his defender up and shot a fade away.Shelbyville was able to catch up, down by only one. Mt. Vernon did not let them up. Ertel got a steal and a lay-up, putting Mt.Vernon 7-4.Ertle brought out the ball while still under Shelbyville’s basket. He passed to Brady Webber, senior, and in the corner, Vise was screening Ertel.Ertel shot a deep three on the top of the key. Mt.Vernon was up by four against Shelbyville. Everyone watched in anticipation as the ball flew into the air.After a good play by Mt.Vernon, Vise came out to the corner to shoot a three. The game was getting more difficult for Shelbyville.With the clock almost up, Vise and Shelbyville fought for the ball. Mason Myer junior, came to help his team mate on the ground. Mt. Vernon was still up by 7.With three seconds on the clock, the ball flew in the air. Jamaree Collins, senior, saved the game. Mt.Vernon hung on, winning 60-57.
