Mt. Vernon Girls’ basketball team played against New Palestine, at New Palestine High School on December 16, 2025. The game started off quick and competitive, with New Palestine’s #25 shooting a deep three on top of the key. Taylor Greulich, freshman, closed out on the shooter hard.
Mt.Vernon was on defense as Greulich stopped New Palestine point guard #1. Zoey Wood, sophomore, was ready to help Greulich on defense, while also defending New Palestine shooter in the corner.Mt. Vernon Girl’s basketball players Wood, Greulich, sophomore Delani Williams, sophomore Kat Simmons and sophomore Kendra Ash, teamed up before starting the game against their rivals.After a shooting foul made by Mt. Vernon, New Palestine’s #11 shot a free throw bringing them back in the game with the score 8-11. Fans were on edge with Mt. Vernon and New Palestine’s intensity.Greulich guarded New Palestine point guard #1, while Simmons guarded New Palestine post #32. New Palestine had to face Mt Vernon’s zone-helpside defense, using the corner to push the ball and set screens.Wood and Williams ran back on defense after Ash scored a lay-up on the bottom.With the score being almost tied, Mt. Vernon was on defense when New Palestine tried desperately to get a last minute shot for half time.New Palestine #25 ran to get a rebound from off the basket, Greulich came with her, fighting to see who could get the ball first. With much anticipation from fans and the players and both teams fighting hard until the end, Mt. Vernon won, 45-38.
