After 10 years of no new music or tours, Midwest emo band, Sports, have made their return. With the release of their sophomore studio album “We’ll Get To It Eventually” in 2015, the band continued to tour for a few months before retiring with an abrupt break up.
The band’s lead singer, Chris Ward, has said on occasion that the band split due to the lack of fans and engagement with the band. The members went their separate ways with Ward going on to play bass with the band Snack’d and the others fizzing out into their day to day life.
As the years passed, a new wave of emo music hit the world, which brought light to once obscure bands. Sports gained the spotlight recently on TikTok and their once dormant Spotify shot up to over 100 thousand monthly listeners.
Noticing their bands newfound success, Sports put out a newly remastered version of their freshmen album, “Demon Daze.” A few months later, the band revived their social media presence and announced a reunion tour set for the end of 2025.
After 10 long years of dormancy, Sports were shocked to see sold out venues across the country. During a concert this past November, Ward went on stage to say that he never expected the band to suddenly get so popular. Later on in the speech, he said that he had just recently quit his nine to five to pursue his dreams of touring with Sports.
Sports plans to continue their once retired band and have plans to release a new album sometime in 2026.
