Surges of Arctic air are on their way to the United States, where people can expect extremely cold temperatures that will affect the central and eastern US. There are three suspected rounds of polar vortex systems in the month of December. Flurries of snow may possibly cause snow storms and snow in general.
Polar Vertexes are created in the North Pole. They are large upper-air weather systems in the Arctic. The polar vortex is a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles. It always exists near the poles, but weakens during the summer months and strengthens in the winter. “Vortex” is used to refer to the counter-clockwise flow of air that helps to keep the colder air near the poles.
According to Joe Edwards of Newsweek, “The second blast of Arctic air is expected to advance from the northern Plains today to the Midwest on Sunday and then to the East on Monday.”
These freezing temperatures may force schools to close, likely driving up the amount of energy people use and affecting driving conditions. Temperatures may possibly drop below zero in the Midwest. It is important to look out for weather updates and ensure that one is safe.
