The 2025 elections have shown that women are not the future, but the present. With record breaking wins in the 2025 election, women all across the county, especially women of color, have come far in politics.
In the 2025 elections, women made big gains in the State Legislature and mayoral offices. U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill will be the first Democratic female governor of New Jersey. She will also be the first female military veteran to serve as an American governor.
Four other women were elected for mayoral positions in St. Louis, Oakland, San Antonio, and New Orleans. In Detroit, Michigan, Mary Sheffield has been elected as the first Black mayor. She also has the honor of being the first woman elected to the position. In St. Paul, Minnesota, Kaohly Hershares a similar distinction of being not the first woman, but also the first Asian American/Pacific Islander woman to be elected as mayor.
All these women have made great leaps for female politicians along with women of color being represented.
