The Mt. Vernon Lady Marauders kicked off their season strong. On November 4, the Marauders had their first game of the season against Whiteland High School. Going into the game, the Marauders were eager to start the season..
At 6 pm, the JV team secured a win with 39-19. Immediately after them at 7:30 pm, Varsity took the court. The starting five consisted of Marissa Miner, Senior; Zoey Wood, Sophomore; Gabby Thomas, Junior; Kendra Ash, Sophomore; and Delani Williams, Sophomore.
The Marauders took a lead early, and continued to pull away from the Whiteland Warriors. The Varsity ended up achieving a victory over Whiteland 75-42.
The wins were not the only events celebrated that evening. Wood tied her record for points in a game by scoring 29. This game also happened to be a huge night for the girls’ basketball head coach Julie Shelton. Coach Shelton secured her 400th career win in this game. She has spent 25 years as the girls basketball head coach.
The next few games will be December 6th at home, December 9th at Anderson High School, and December 13th at home.
