Everyone knows that the football themes are one of the best parts of the game. Themes bring people together and create an amazing football experience. Some themes Mt. Vernon has had this school year are Hawaiian, USA, and camo. Some of these themes are creative while others are horrific. Mt. Vernon needs some better themes.
The first theme this year was Hawaiian. Hawaiian is a very overused theme. This does not mean that it is not good. This theme has been built into the high school experience because it is a main theme that goes well for just about any event like work events and birthdays. So I think this should stay.
Adam Stamps, a sophomore, believes Hawaiian was the best.“It’s a good theme and gets everyone prepared for the rest of the season, especially in band and it’s fun being a part of band during the football season.”
Now the USA theme is a good theme, but it too is overused. Since football is such a well-known American sport, the USA theme is definitely needed. It is also an easy dress up theme as it is also a United States holiday. This means that many people would have the proper attire.
Elias Sauter, a sophomore football player agrees that the USA is the best theme.
“It shows how we play football. I would recommend people to go for friends and to have fun. The atmosphere and participation in school spirit is just great to see.”
Moving along, the camo theme is also alright. People just dress up in green and black, which is just boring and bland.Occasionally there are some plants in the stands. When people think about camo it sounds like a good idea, but it is just not unique.
A theme that should not even be a theme, but yet was a theme this year, is neon. Neon consistists of such ugly colors that no one really wears anymore. Only a small percentage can follow the theme. Not to mention there are so many other themes people could use to allow more involvement. Mt.Vernon needs to retire this antique theme.
A more popular theme is blackout. It is a theme that occurs every year here at Mt. Vernon. Blackout sounds and is ultimately basic and boring. However it is tradition so, therefore, of course it is highly rated. Why change this traditional theme when they could change some of these other plain, boring themes.
Kira Denny, a freshman,“One of my favorites because the students get to dress up in paint and it’s funny to see people dress up in all black outfits.”
An actually good theme is cowboy. This theme is creative and well thought of, unlike the hideous neon theme. This is different from the other themes we have had. Dressing as a cowboy is overall a fun theme and students can create an electric atmosphere.
Minion is a theme that has become more popular over the years. It is a fun theme that unites the Mt. Vernon community because a lot of people think it is funny. Personally, I would not paint myself yellow, but many individuals go over the top for this, which is great.
A highly rated theme this year was frat. Girls typically dress up as guys with baggy clothes and hats. These guys also wear this but it’s seen as more fitting since this is the typical style. This theme is all over social media, and it is mainly because it is genuinely an enjoyable theme. Some people dress up for fun while others are preparing for their college years.
The Jersey theme is a boring, horrific theme. Whoever picked this theme truly got lazy. Yes anyone can dress up for this, but it is dull and it feels as though it is just there. Many people wear jerseys regularly so it just doesn’t feel like a theme at all. No one gets excited for jersey night.
Mt. Vernon needs better themes for the football season. This school needs more creativity and a desire for an incredible atmosphere.
