On August 22, 2025, Laufey released her new album “Matter of Time.” There are 14 songs on the album, along with four singles: “Silver Lining,” “Tough Luck,” “Lover Girl” and “Snow White.” “Matter of Time” is jazz-pop with some bossa-pop. The theme of the album explores the intricate and complex aspects of love, heartbreak, friendship breakups and self-reflection. The album betrays unique concepts mixing story-like elements with real world experiences. This album has to be one of my favorite albums of 2025.
While listening to this album, every song was a magical, whimsical experience with amazing portrayals of emotions and relationships. Every song, besides a couple of the more upbeat tracks, had me sobbing. Laufey’s vocals on this album really showed her improvement and it showed how talented she is as a singer.
“Matter of Time” also showed how good she is as a songwriter. Songs like “Too Little, Too Late,” “Forget-Me-Not,” “Sabotage” and “Silver Lining” are really good examples of how she conveyed her songwriting abilities along with her vocals.
Silver Lining is track 6 on the album and the first released single on the album. According to Ella Mosely, the song “Silver Linings” initially feels like a perfect slow dance anthem. But beneath the delicate guitar and background strings, lies a core of emotional storytelling. The song opens with a scene of subtle self-destruction. Mosely also believes that the “delicate guitar” and the strings in the background are the heart of the “emotional storytelling.” Her comments are in relation to the “subtle self-destruction” in the lyrics like, “I’ve been falling in bad habits / Staring into the abyss / Drowning in red wine and sniffing cinnamon.” “Silver Lining” really shows the magic of “Matter of Time” before it was released. The storytelling and her raw vocals in this song gives fans wanting more, and it made me want more.
Another song on the album, “Too Little, Too Late” really shows the magic and emotional storytelling. In the song “Too Little, Too Late,” Laufey delivers another heartbreaking love song which is what really captured audiences with her last album about how willingly she was being vulnerable. Following the themes of the album of fairytale-esque stories and lyrics, this song feels a bit like the villain.says Pop Passion.
The song follows a male point of view of being too late to love. It is vulnerable, romantic and realistic. It gave me goosebumps and every time I listen to it I sob.
“Matter of Time” really is a starting point of Laufey becoming the next artist and revolutionizing the music world. With emotional, dream-like storytelling mixing realistic experiences and emotions with fairytale-like resemblance. This album is enjoyable, catchy and unique and one of my favorite albums of 2025.
