Family, Career and Community leaders of America, or more commonly known as FCCLA, is a leadership oriented club for students throughout the nation. This organization is meant to help students develop real-world skills that are necessary for their future careers.

There are many opportunities available along with FCCLA. Merit-based scholarships give students the opportunity to gain a higher education and pursue the career of their choice. These scholarships are gained through competitive events throughout the year. These events dive deeper into career pathways and address common personal, work or societal issues.
Known as STAR events, FCCLA competitive events are done in levels ranging from one to four. The grade levels included in these events range from elementary school to post-secondary school. These events are under the career cluster framework which sets guidelines for each project. These career clusters could deal with culinary arts, early childhood education, fashion design, hospitality and tourism.

Mt. Vernon’s chapter has started the process of FCCLA preparations. The leadership is planning out the next few community service projects and started figuring out what to do for STAR projects. Kristyn Filsaime, grade 11, is the FCCLA president for the 2025-2026 school year. FCCLA is held in Mrs. Rinehart’s room during SRT on Wednesdays.
