Every year, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the history and culture of Hispanic and Latino communities, and the impact that they have on the past, present and future of the United States.

In 1968, President Johnson declared it a week long celebration, and in 1988, President Reagan made it a month long celebration.
Starting September 15th, Mt. Vernon High School Spanish Club hosts their Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating Contest. Participating SRT classes chose a famous Hispanic or Latino figure and decorated their doors, sharing information and pictures of their chosen person.

There were many participants in this year’s contest, with famous Latinos or Hispanics people ranging from Lin-Manual Miranda to Lionel Messi.
After a week’s long preparation, students were asked to vote for their favorite decoration. Mrs. Schiller’s SRT class was announced the winner with their Joan Baez door.
