On September 20, Ralphie VII made her debut as the new mascot of the Colorado Buffaloes. The one-year-old, 700-pound bison burst out of her end-zone stall.
Currently, about two dozen college football teams have live mascots. Live animals mascots are said to inspire fans and help people build deeper connections with their teams. The running of the buffalo has been at the University of Colorado Boulder for the past 58 years.
Ralphie VII is taking the place of Ralphie VI, who retired before the start of this season. For the last two home games, there has not been any version of Ralphie, which has disappointed some fans.
While Ralphie VII is the latest bison, Ralphie VI came before. Ralphie VI, also nicknamed Ember, is said to be joining Ralphie V, also nicknamed Blackout, on a private, undisclosed ranch. The Colorado Buffaloes had Ralphie VII gifted to them by the Beauprez family.
At the end of Ralphie VII’s first game, the Colorado Buffaloes won 37-20 against the Wyoming Cowboys. After her first run, Ralphie VII was given a nickname, as per tradition. Ralphie VII’s nickname is now Jules.
The running of Ralphie is a very important tradition for the Colorado Buffaloes, and people are very excited to meet Ralphie VII.
