The MTV Video Music Awards aired live from UBC Arena in New York on September 7. There were many star-studded performances and honors for the biggest artists of the year. Here is a recap with some of the highlights of the night.
The show was hosted by rapper, LL Cool J, and the opening performance featured Doja Cat, performing her song “Jealous Type,” along with saxophonist, Kenny G.
Some of the top performances of the night were Tate McRae’s exotic and memorable dance of her hit song “Revolving Door,” and Alex Warren’s powerful rendition of his top charting song, “Ordinary.” Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Sabrina Carpenter and others also gave star-studded performances.
Many notable stars were awarded, including Lady Gaga winning the award for Artist of the Year and Ariana Grande winning Best Pop Video and taking home the top prize of Video of the Year. Gaga took home the most of the night, with four “moon person” trophies, and Grande not far behind with three.
Two new categories were introduced. Best Country Artist was won by Meagan Maroney, and Best Pop Artist was won by Sabrina Carpenter.
Many other awards were handed out to artists including Rosé, Bruno Mars, Katseye and Doechii, among many others. A full list of the night’s winners can be found here.
