The National Art Honor Society at Mount Vernon has started up again for this year. They had their first meeting Aug. 29 and are already beginning multiple projects. Because there are so many new members, there are greater opportunities for student-led works and ideas.
NAHS is also wrapping up their book project from last year. There are only two more covers that need to be painted. Once they are completed, they will be hung with the rest of the artwork in the English hallway.
One new piece members are working on is a hygiene bookshelf for the library. They came up with an eye-catching design and are currently painting it. The bookshelf will house hygiene products that students can pick up from the library if they need them.
An MV basketball themed mural in the boys’ locker room is also being worked on. Mr. Bradburn asked students to create a mural that included words and phrases that the players associate with their team. The planning for this has just begun, but the project members are hoping to get it finished before basketball season starts.
These are the projects that are currently being worked on in NAHS. There are multiple other ideas that have been discussed, so this will be a busy year for the club.
If someone is looking for a way to share their art through community service and the school, NAHS is a great place to do so. The club is accepting applications which can be found in Mrs. Evans’ room in the art hallway.
