“Resident Evil: Requiem,” the ninth title in the main Resident Evil game line up, is set to be released on February 27, 2026. Many long standing RE fans are excited for this thrilling new addition to the series, as game demos and comments from the directors have confirmed this game to be the “scariest” game in the series. The game intends to go back to its roots of horror, rather than relying heavily on the action aspects of previous titles.
During Gamescom, which was held in Germany from August 20 to the 24, Capcom offered a RE9 demo for users to play. Users got a look at the gameplay, which offers a first-person view, like RE7 and RE8, as well as giving players the option to revert to third-person view. The game was also revealed to have an enemy very similar to that of Mr. X, a stalker-like opponent who was present in RE2. This means that throughout the game, players will be followed by a monster who is hunting down Grace Ashcroft, the protagonist.
Many fans are speculating about who this new monster could be. Several people believe that the new enemy is Lisa Trevor, a character who was introduced in the first Resident Evil. The monster in RE9 shares a similar appearance to Lisa, who had been mutated by several biological experiments conducted on her by the Umbrella Corporation. However, Lisa perished in the 1998 Raccoon City incident when the city was eliminated due to the zombie outbreak. Another theory fans have is that the new monster is Grace Ashcroft’s mother, Alyssa Ashcroft. People believe the new enemy may be a mutated version of Alyssa.
Diving deeper into the mechanics of the game, the new Resident Evil will feature elements such as throwing items like glass bottles in order for the player to distract their new enemy. The new monster will hunt down the protagonist through the halls and ceilings of the building, which happens to be the old Raccoon City Police Department. The monster thrives in the dark, and is adverse to the light of a fully illuminated room. The player is given a lighter to track their way around the dark building, but since the fire is so feeble, it will attract the monster.
Another new game mechanic is that when a player runs, the character can trip. In previous Resident Evil games, a character is able to run, but only with a certain amount of stamina. RE9 adds a tripping mechanic, preventing a character running full speed, as Grace in the demos is often seen fumbling over her feet.
Overall, many fans are prepared for the latest addition to the Resident Evil franchise. Many new things await those who are excited for this game’s release.
