The “Superman” movie is currently in theaters and is available to rent on Amazon. It is predicted to be streamed on HBO Max anywhere between late September and late October, 2025. So far “Superman” has made about $351.74 million domestically and $600 million globally. Despite analysts projecting a higher opening weekend number, it is still considered a success for DC.
The plotline of “Superman” is that Superman is a beloved hero who is secretly Clark Kent. For Lex Luthor, billionaire arch-nemesis to Superman, the purpose of his plotline in the movie is that he is trying to get the government to hate Superman. Lex Luthor wants to get him out of the way so that he can control the government. With the help of the Justice Gang, Lois Lane and Krypto, Superman fights his way to stay a good guy in the eyes of the government. For those who don’t know, Krypto, also known as Superdog, is a dog with superpowers who is Supergirl’s pet in this film.
The characters, overall, are very fleshed out and the acting is immaculate. An example of this is Clark Kent, played by David Corenswet. In past movies, Clark Kent seemed really out of touch and not fully human-like, even though he spent most of his life on Earth. But in this movie, he seems fully in touch with reality. They made it so that he actually understands Earth’s concepts and is not oblivious to how things work on Earth.
Corenswet’s execution of Superman is on point as well. He makes it a perfect balance of an alien from another world and a human who lived on Earth his whole life. He illustrates Superman as someone who knows the concepts of Earth and emotions. He also makes sure to portray a confident deminer in the Superman form, but with Clark Kent, he has a nerdy persona.
James Gunn decided to make his version more accurate to the original comic. In the comics, because Supergirl’s pod traveled more slowly than her baby cousin, Superman, she didn’t arrive until after the full destruction of Krypton was able to be seen on Earth. This led to Supergirl not fully being over the destruction of her home planet. To cope, she goes to other planets with red suns so she can get drunk. She does this because Kryptonians can’t get drunk on planets with red suns. This is why Krypto is with Superman until the end of the movie, when Supergirl comes barreling in drunk to pick up Krypto. In past movies, a lot of directors cut this because they want to reach a broader audience. However, since the director added this, it made the world seem more enriched and less like a money grab. James Gunn really made it seem like he loves the Superman comics and wants to portray them correctly.
This movie is five out of five stars. It is a perfect movie for teens. It is perfect for all ages and is highly recommended. The praise is 100% worth it.
