The new “How to Train Your Dragon” live-action is the highest-grossing movie in the “HTTYD” franchise, even though it has only been out for three months. It has already made $626.4 million worldwide. In October, it is set to be released to Peacock for streaming.
The plot line of the movie is the same as the animated movie. The only real change is the dialogue here and there and the changing of some characters’ races.
Now, I do not care that they changed Astrid from white and blonde to Black with brown locs. It does not affect the story at all, and honestly, I could not care less. The character is the same, just a different person playing her.
However, I do think it was kind of weird that the twins do not look identical like the original. I only find this odd because they still included the line that the twins’ mother cannot tell them apart.
Overall, I love the actors who were chosen. I think they are the perfect actors for their roles. Each actor perfectly embodies the character they are playing and it is so easy to get immersed in the movie because of them.
Now, let me talk about the CGI. I love how the director brought the dragons to life. I love that the dragons are scarier than the original. I love how much emotion is shown on the dragons’ faces. Honestly this movie adds so much depth to the original and makes the characters feel so much more alive. I love how it was directed and how cohesive it is.
I honestly think that if Hollywood continues doing live action for the rest of the franchise, they will make a significant profit margin. If they do continue with the series, I would prefer it if they did not add a spin-off like “Dragons: The Live Realm.” I just feel like, as much as that gives people more world-building, it is not needed.
Overall, this movie is immaculate, and no little detail was spared. I give this movie five out of five stars and would highly recommend it.
