The band “America” came to the Indianapolis fair grounds on August 7. This was a stop on their “The Encore Tour.”The concert was held on the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage and was sponsored by the Hoosier Lottery. The area allowed for viewers to bring their own lawn chairs or sit at the picnic tables that were provided. The grounds were filled with seats and hundreds of people from the fair came to see the concert.America played many of their most famous songs, along with some lesser-known ones. Their popular songs included “Ventura Highway,” “Horse With No Name” and “Lonely People.” They also played songs like “Don’t Cross the River” and “Green Monkey.”To go along with the music, the band played videos on the venue’s screen behind the stage. These included things like movies that the songs were used in, psychedelic visuals, and videos of events from the 1970s– the decade the band and most of their albums were created. The band had multiple guest musicians throughout the show as well. One of these was George Martin, the man behind many of The Beatles’ early albums. They also covered two songs, “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas and “Cinnamon Girl” by Neil Young.
