American actor Paul Dano has been featured in a span of different films and shows of varying genres. Due to his soft, almost trustworthy appearance, he often portrays shy, meek and awkward characters. Examples of this include his characters in movies like “The Fabelmans,” “Where The Wild Things Are” and “Prisoners.” He is also incredibly soft spoken, which has landed him roles such as the talking spider Hanus in the Adam Sandler movie “Spaceman.”
Dano debuted in several community plays as a child in his youth, but he made his break in the film “L.I.E” as a troubled teenager who gets mixed up with an older man. He went on to play as side characters in other films. He is most known for his major roles in the films “There Will Be Blood” and “Little Miss Sunshine.”
In “There Will Be Blood,” Dano’s character, Eli Sunday, is a devoted preacher in a small town in California. During this movie, Dano gives an astounding performance and it is emotional and heart-wrenching. The role garnered Dano several award nominations such as BAFTA for best supporting actor.
From then on, Dano has made his appearance in several other movies and TV shows, such as the “War and Peace” series. He made his directorial debut with “Wildlife,” co-writing the film with his wife, Zoe Kazan, and Richard Ford. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal.
One of his most notable roles in recent times is his role as the Riddler in the 2022 “The Batman” film. He stated in an interview that, “There were some nights around that I probably didn’t sleep as well as I would’ve wanted to just because it was a little hard to come down from this character.”
Despite being one of his more difficult roles, he gave an astounding performance with what little screen time the villain gets in the movie.
Paul Dano, despite not having much of a presence, is an interesting actor and can fit into so many different kinds of characters. He is described as a “chameleon” by director Matt Reeves.
Overall, Paul Dano deserves more recognition for his amazing performances in his acting roles as well as acknowledgement for the films that he has written.
