Fashion is an ever evolving concept, especially in the mind of the youth. The principal of Mt Vernon High School sent out a survey asking students about their fashion styles and opinions. This survey hopes to further understand what high schoolers think about fashion. The survey attracted 117 students who were split almost evenly between the four grade levels. Juniors held the highest interaction with 25.6% and sophomores held the lowest with 23.9%,
Creating an outfit for the day can be challenging. An important part of that issue is deciding how much time one spends to create an outfit. Out of all the students, 41% of people claimed that it only takes them around five minutes to create their fit. The second most common answer was around ten minutes with a percentage of 32.5. A shocking 17.9% of people say that they put no thought into their outfit and they grab the first thing that they see. The lowest percentage of 8.5 percent of people were the ones who claimed that it takes them 20 or more minutes to create an outfit.
Another important part of creating an outfit is figuring out when to create the outfit. Most people with 65% of them said they get ready the morning of. The other 35% of people prepare their outfit the night before.
Now fashion trends are very prominent in today’s age. Shockingly only 41% of people said that they do follow fashion trends, while the other 59% claim that they do not.
The majority of students with 88% of people said they do acknowledge others’ outfits. The other 12% of people hold no value in acknowledging the appearance of others.
The top five most common answers as to what students thought the most important part of an outfit were: shoes, pants, top/shirt, accessories and lastly, the most surprising one: color.
Out of all the participants, 50% of students said that they judge others based on what they wear and the other 50% said that they do not.
After finding out what the students thought was most important it would help better understand students if they knew how to describe their outfits. Out of the answers received, the most common answer was “Comfort.”
