As many know, President Trump was elected and inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States of America. Trump made many campaign promises during his campaign, and once he assumed office, he signed several executive orders on his first day. These two bits of information provide a window into what the next four years may be like.
In one of his speeches, Trump said, “I will unite our country by bringing it to new and record levels of success.” However, he did not specify what measures he would take to achieve that success.
During his 2024 election campaign, Trump promised to start mass deportations and impose tariffs on imports from different countries. Both of these have started being enacted. Tariffs have been added to Canada, Mexico, and some European countries.
The tariffs he plans to put in place would make it so the prices of things made outside of the U.S. will be higher for the buyers in America because the people exporting it from foreign countries have to pay more to send it to the U.S. The thing about this, though, is that for a lot of small businesses, this will make it so they have to pay more for the different parts of their products with the things that they are making.
From the mass deportation standpoint, he has made it legal that ICE can go into any public spaces to take kids and adults out to be detained and deported immediately.
When he talked about deportation, he talked about the “criminals” that he would be deporting out of the U.S. Additionally, he is going to deport everyone who does not have the right papers. He has also talked about deporting not just illegal immigrants, but anyone who has immigrated to the U.S. that has any criminal record.
Next, it is important to stay informed on the different executive orders that Trump signed when he was first inaugurated into office. One of the first orders was H.R. 10014, which requires government employees to return to in-person work. The main goal of this order was to reduce spending, with all of the money going to government employees and contracted employees working from home.
There was also another order signed to officially classify cartels as terrorist organizations. This is mainly to stop the distribution of fentanyl throughout the United States. This was passed so the Department of Homeland Security could use the right measures to take care of the situation.
The final order that Trump has enacted re-introduces the death penalty to make the United States safer. Many states did not ban the death penalty, this just makes it so all states have it back.
Lastly, what is coming next? It is really hard to tell. Based on what Trump has promised and what is happening, almost anything could happen in the next four years.
