Curly hair can be a struggle to get under control, especially since there are so many different types of textures and types of hair. The most important part of figuring out curly hair before styling it is taking care of it. Taking care of curly hair includes washing it, applying the right products and even drying it. This part may take some time, especially if the hair is damaged and a person does not know their hair type.
Finding one’s hair type can be very helpful in starting out on the hair care journey. It is not required, but it can give an extra boost of support to the curls. There are three types of curly hair: waves, curls and coils. In each of these sections, there are types A: fine, B: medium and C: coarse. Each type has its unique attributes making them special.
After finding hair type, next is finding the right products for that hair type. There are a wide variety of products out there and some experimenting may be needed. Suggested brands that are well-known for their quality are Mielle, Not Your Mother’s, Shea Moisture, Moroccan oil and Camille Rose. Though these are brand names, do keep in mind that not all popular brands are the best for certain hair types, which is why it is suggested to experiment.
Shampoo and conditioner are a good start in regards to hair care products. Before styling, keeping hair in the best condition is very important. The health of the scalp is what supports the rest of the hair. Leave-in conditioners are a good add-on for keeping hair soft and strong. Hair oils are a good option for reducing frizz and encouraging continued growth healthily.
After hair care comes the fun part of styling. Styling products may include things like curl cream, mousse, gel and oils. Curl cream and gel work together to bring the curls together, in order to form them completely. The curl cream brings out the curls while the gel holds it in a cast.
The best time to do the curl cream and gel is when the hair is wet, right after a shower on wash day or even by using a spray bottle. Start by raking the cream through the hair by hand when it is wet. Next, incorporate the gel gently into the hair with a quarter-sized amount and scrunch the hair while still wet. This is a good opportunity to use a curl-defining brush. When all of the product is incorporated, it can be dried naturally or using a diffuser. When it is about eighty percent dry, break the gel cast with hair oil and the process is complete.
Taking care of curly hair may take time to get used to and it can be challenging to find the perfect routine but it is worth the effort in the end. It is important to take care of oneself and keeping hair at optimum quality can make a huge difference.
