With Thanksgiving now passed, it is time to discuss horror movies themed around the beloved holiday. The movie titled “Thanksgiving” was a 2023 movie with lots of stars in it, from Addison Rae to Patrick Dempsy.
The whole premise of the movie is that a killer is coming to town to hunt a mostly teenage-looking group of kids. This all stems from a Black Friday gone wrong a couple of years prior to the start of the movie. The group of kids does not know who the killer is, but they have their suspicions. As the body count grows, they get closer and closer to who the killer is. The killer’s identity is revealed at the end of the movie after the kids go through many encounters with the killer.
This movie was given an average score of three point three stars out of five when it came out by IMDB. The movie’s plotline is only okay. At times the movie is boring and mundane and feels like all the other trash horror. During the movie it has many actions that are outright stupid and make no sense to do it in the context of the situation. This is like during the movie a character is getting killed and instead of running outside to her car she runs into a deep freezer.
What the movie lacks in plot, it makes up for in gore. It has very good special effects, and it is obvious that the movie producers put their main effort into the impact and how stomach-churning some of the scenes are. For example, towards the end, they had cooked someone alive, cut off a piece of their leg, and fed it to someone.
The movie’s main plot is not able to keep the watchers interested, but the gore makes up for it. This is similar to the Terrifior movies which are never remembered for their plot lines, but mainly for the gorey and intense scenes and how gross they are.
The movie’s gore is eye-catching and makes the watcher want to turn aways, but simultaneously keeps the watcher invested. If the movie’s writers had put slightly more effort into the script, it would have been way better. It would have been nice if the killer’s motivation was not just that his wife was murdered in the opening scene.
Overall, the whole movie is a very middle ground. It is not that good, but not bad, so I would give a rating of six out of ten.
