The “Sonic 3” movie was released on December 20, 2024. It continued the live-action series and was inspired by the “Sonic Adventure 2” and “Shadow the Hedgehog” games within the franchise. Following the trend of the films, multiple new characters and their backstories were introduced. These included Shadow the Hedgehog and Gerald Robotnik, both of whom are characters from the aforementioned video games.
Overall, this movie was great. I think that it followed the story of the live-action movies and the video games well and did not change too much about either one. Throughout the film, there were multiple references to the games. For example, some of the characters’ lines were the same as in the games.
The plot of the movie went along well with the previous two films. I did not think that the addition of a new storyline was too jarring and it allowed for the movies to continue interestingly. Because the second movie introduced both Tails and Knuckles, it was a good decision to keep adding more characters from the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise with each movie.
I enjoyed the plot of this movie. It had less of a comedic and fun tone than the first and second movies, which I liked. Because the movie focused on Shadow’s backstory, it dealt with death and how it can affect someone’s entire life. However, it was not all dark and it had a good mix of humor and seriousness. I think that this movie had a lot of heart and did not feel like a poor representation of the characters and their struggles.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who has seen the previous “Sonic the Hedgehog” live-action movies or to anyone who is a fan of the game franchise. I think that the story goes well with the other films and is a great representation of the original plotline and characters from the video games.
