According to a form sent out regarding students’ music statistics, this year, the students of Mt. Vernon High School listened to over 11,557,791 minutes of music in total, with the average minutes listened per student being 54,776. The anonymous student who spent the highest amount of time listening to music listened for 326,954 minutes.
The students of Mt. Vernon High School’s top artist overall in 2024 was Taylor Swift. Furthermore, 7.1% of students said that Taylor Swift was their top artist of 2024, 3.8% said that Tyler, the Creator was their top artist, 3.8% said that Drake was their top artist, 3.3% said that Hozier was their top artist and 3.3% said that Zach Bryan or Lana Del Rey was their top artist.
The students of Mt. Vernon High School listened to a variety of songs in 2024. However, the three songs that students loved most were “Guilty as Sin?” by Taylor Swift, “Too Sweet” by Hozier and “Pink + White” by Frank Ocean.
Additionally, 68.1% of students stated that they use Spotify to listen to music. 17.6% of students use Apple Music, 3.8% use Amazon Music and 3.3% use YouTube Music.
An assortment of artists appeared on the students of Mt. Vernon High School’s 2024 playlist. From ABBA to Slipknot to Sleep Token to Tally Hall to Morgan Wallen to Kendrick Lamar to Chappell Roan to C418, the students of Mt. Vernon High School listened to a wide variety of genres.
One student stated, “Music is therapy. Some people like to listen just because it sounds good, others listen because the lyrics have meaning…Music isn’t just music for many.”
Another student claimed that they liked their 2024 Spotify Wrapped, but that they would like it even more if they could listen to Spotify on their school Chromebook.
A different student commented, “Music helps me focus, especially in school…Sitting in class is when I find a lot of new music that I connect with. I think that the school should unblock Spotify.”
Overall, the consensus on this year’s Spotify Wrapped was mixed. Some students were satisfied with it and some students claimed that it was inaccurate.
“Music is a way to calm your soul. Everyone has their own unique taste which just goes to show how different each soul can be, which I find very remarkable,” one student stated.
Another anonymous student said that music is “a way to escape reality” and that listeners should “always appreciate the people who make music for [them] to listen to.”
Music is important to many, but it is especially important to Mt. Vernon High School students. All in all, Mt. Vernon High School students have an impressive variety of taste in music.
