The opening scene of “Incoming” is very embarrassing. One of the main characters, Benj, is making out with a mirror. The opening scene for all the main characters shows how unpopular they are and are going to be. Koosh has an older brother who is the “bad boy” of the school, smoking and fighting kids. Eddie and Connor ride the bus together and Connor is talking like a typical Hollywood nerd. He immediately goes to school and gets the nickname “Pubes.” Benj is delusional and thinks he had a moment with Bailey, his long-time crush when they talked one night over the summer.
At the beginning of the movie, it seems like a typical Hollywood movie about unpopular kids trying to be popular. When Benj says he will kill himself if he does not have the slightest conversation with his crush, it is overkill. It honestly has the plot of tons of movies. It is not the most original.
It did, however, get interesting towards the middle. It was hilarious seeing the teacher light himself on fire after a science experiment with alcohol backfired. In the next scene there was a fight scene which was brutal. The scene between Bailey and Benj was sweet and when Connor and Eddie walked through the store, it was funny. I loved it when Eddie stood up to his stepfather.
What started as a typical, unoriginal Hollywood movie, turned out decent at the end. It still was not an original concept, but it did have some funny parts and things that were original. I give this a 3.8/5 stars.
