Dennis Keith Rodman was born on May 13, 1961. This moment right here in an average unexpecting, normal Trenton, New Jersey hospital was the birth of the greatest rebounding forward in NBA history. Starting his iconic NBA run in 1986, representing the Detroit Pistons, Rodman would primarily play as a small forward.
A few years later, Rodman would go on to win back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990. Rodman made headlines for his incredible rebounding skills and defensive prowess. Standing at 6 ‘7, he played primarily as a power forward and small forward. During his first back to back wins in 1989 and 1990, he earned the title as one of the “Bad Boys,” a team that dominated the NBA at the time.
After this performance, he joined the Chicago Bulls, where he played alongside the GOATs Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. This trio won three consecutive NBA championships from 1996 to 1998.
Rodman was known for his eccentric personality. He may have racked up the least amount of points of the three players, but he had the most “color.” Rodman was seen rocking a series of different hairstyles, most notably the buzz with the designs dyed in. He would wear spiderwebs, polka dots, and rainbows on his head throughout his basketball career. This man was a media sensation. From the wacky hairdos to the numerous piercings and tattoos he had, nobody could take their eyes off of him.
He is also known all for his off-court antics all throughout the ’90s and 2000s, but Rodman’s basketball skills were undeniable. He led the league in rebounds per game for seven consecutive seasons and was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice. He also had the nickname “The Worm,” which is amazing. The name derived from his childhood, where he’d wiggle around while playing pinball. His mom thought this was humorous and dubbed Rodman as “The Worm.”
After retiring from the NBA, Rodman remained in the public eye through various entertainment avenues, including professional wrestling and reality TV. Even today, one can see his face plastered on posters, hoodies, and t-shirts throughout the world.
