The Beatles are surely one of the most influential and famous bands of all time. They were essentially the world’s very
first boy band. However, they were more than just a couple of Liverpool boys for girls from all over the world to fawn over. The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups in the world and they experimented with various styles of music from all around, especially India. From their humble beginnings to the tough breakup of the band, the Beatles left a huge impact on the music industry.
From the very start, the Beatles were a huge hit in England. They became an international success with their televised appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. This success can also be attributed to their manager, Brian Epstein, who took an interest in them when he saw them play at The Cavern Club. He gave them a fresh look, and they were expected to hit it big. They did.
They garnered a massive fanbase, deemed ‘Beatlemaniacs’, in which most of their numbers were “made up of screaming girls who assembled anywhere the Beatles appeared”. They toured worldwide from 1964 to 1966, before they received backlash from a certain comment made by rhythm guitarist and singer songwriter John Lennon, that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus” This is what stopped a nearly two year constant touring period.
The band did not appear in public for nearly four years after that, until they played their last concert on the roof of the Apple Corps building in 1969. The band eventually broke up in 1970, due to rising conflicts between John Lennon and Paul McCartney over who their new manager should be. A lot of fans like to attribute the group’s disbanding to John’s wife, Yoko Ono, but this simply is not true. She may have been a factor when John would invite her along to their recording sessions, but there had been arguments in the band long before Yoko was in the picture.
Even after the breakup of the band, the death of John Lennon in 1980, and George Harrison in 2001, so many people
still enjoy the music of the Beatles. They left a lasting impact on music all around the world and so many people today still want to keep the joy of their music alive.
One way people still keep the magic of the Beatles in their heyday alive is with tribute bands. Many times, these tribute band members will dress up in the early Beatles look of their Chesterfield suits or their satin Sgt. Peppers uniforms. There are even some impersonators who look and sound almost exactly like the real Beatles – it’s really quite a wonder to see live on stage. One of these Beatles tribute bands, the Fab Four, visited Conner Prairie on August 31, 2024.
Fans also hold conventions for gatherings of other Beatlemaniacs, with various activities, vendors, and speakers to interact with. One of these conventions is the Beatles Fest, a two day event held in New York.
The Beatles legacy has continued long after they had broken up. Their legacy has reigned on for over 54 years, and many hope it will continue for generations to come. As long as people still listen to and love their music, the Beatles will forever be remembered.
