A new month brings new quirky celebrations. May is the month for Anxiety Awareness, Military Appreciation, Clean Air Month and so many more. This month offers a look into many special celebrations.
May 1: Starting this month off is International Doodle Day. Any dog mixed with a poodle is appreciated around the world on this day.
May 2: May second shares two holidays with Harry Potter day, for all the bookworms; and Brother and Sisters Day, which gives appreciation to siblings.
May 3: The sun can sometimes be taken for granted, especially when it blinds. But it does so much that we have to have our world revolve around it. Literally. So why not give the sun a day of appreciation on National Sun Day.
May 4: “May the Fourth be with you” because it is National Star Wars Day. The sci-fi movie series has millions of fans worldwide to celebrate it.
May 5: There are indeed many weird days, but Hug a Shed and Take a Selfie Day has to be one of them. That is not even two separate celebrations; people are supposed to hug a shed and take a selfie whilst doing so.
May 6: Take a moment and appreciate our nurses and all that they do to try to keep us safe and healthy on National Nurse Day.
May 7: While nurses are being appreciated, also thank the teachers who work so hard for Mt. Vernon. Thank them on National Teachers’ Day.
May 8: Today would be a great day to give someone a cupcake. The giftee gets a sweet treat while the giver gets the feeling of satisfaction that it probably made the receiver’s day. After all, it’s National Give Someone a Cupcake Day and Reward Yourself Day.
May 9: There is always that feeling of dread when a person pulls out a lone sock. And no matter where they look, that sock is gone forever. So Lost Sock Memorial Day is the day to honor the brave socks that have departed and failed to return with their pair.
May 10: Bedrooms are one of the easiest rooms to make messy. It’s a disaster, so why not use National Clean Your Room Day as an excuse to clean it up?
May 11: The eleventh of May is home to Stay Up All Night Day. It is not recommended to do so, but no one is really going to stop anyone from doing so. It could be an easy way to knock out some assignments.
May 12: Of course, this date is about Mother’s Day. It is dedicated to thanking all the moms of the world who are there when their children need it most. Appreciate mothers by getting gifts and letting them know they are loved.
May 13: May 13 is National Top Gun Day. A movie full of action, drama and extreme plot, Top Gun definitely deserves its own day.
May 14: Start up the Chicken Dance because it is Dance Like a Chicken Day. One of the most annoying songs has its own day. That is not even the craziest part of the day; it is also National Chihuahua Appreciation Day.
May 15: Chocolate can be a delicious treat for some. It can be even better when it is in a cookie, making National Chocolate Chip Day a perfect way to celebrate a very tasty treat.
May 16: To the artists out there, May 16 is Drawing Day and National Notebook Day. Pull out those pencils and go wild.
May 17: May 17 is National NASCAR Day, getting race fans ready for the Indy 500. Fun Fact: The Indy 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
May 18: Who loves Reeses? Because if so, this is a great day to eat one, for it is I Love Reese’s Day. And to the people who do not like them: sorry, not sorry.
May 19: This day is included in National Doughnut Week. Visit a local bakery and have a savory treat to start off the morning.
May 20: Names can be holidays too, and May 20th has a few of them. It includes National Eli, Rio and Jase Day.
May 21: Yoda is a common fan-favorite in the Star Wars fandom. So to honor this little green humanoid, it is Talk Like Yoda Day. Very interesting, it is.
May 22: Speaking of fan-favorites, the 22nd of May is the birthday of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.
May 23: Pennies left on the ground bring joy to many. May 23rd is a great day to be looking out for some on Lucky Penny Day.
May 24: As the summer heat starts coming in, it’s important to wear sunscreen. May 24 reminds people of that on Don’t Fry Day.
May 25: Whether you can or cannot sing, National Sing Out Day is fun for many to sing their souls out. Especially while in the shower.
May 26: Although this day is the home to this year’s Indy 500, it also includes National Paper Airplane Day, National Sorry Day and World Dracula Day.
May 27: Popsicles are a nice way to cool down during the summertime. So why not make some on National Grape Popsicle Day?
May 28: May 28 is where hamburgers, one of America’s most popular foods, are celebrated.
May 29: Climbers train for years so they can attempt to climb Mount Everest. It is the tallest mountain in the world and is located in the Himalayas, but many do not make it, so May 29th is a day to honor the climbers who did not reach the top.
May 30: Cats can either hate their owners or never leave them alone. Either way, give these furballs a hug on International Hug a Cat Day.
May 31: Smiles are an easy way to make someone’s day. So why not give someone a smile for National Smile Day, which also happens to be at the end of the month.
