The Cheekwood Museum is a house that has been turned into a museum. The original owner, Leslie Cheek, was the creator of Maxwell House Coffee. He and his wife, Mabel Wood, became very wealthy. As their final wish, they wanted their house to become a museum for people to see.
There are two parts of the museum. There is a large outside area and the inside of the house. The yard is full of flowers and statues. In the spring, tulips bloom throughout the entire yard.Visitors are able to tour the inside of the house. Everything inside has been preserved how it would have looked when the original couple lived there in the 1800s. People are not allowed to touch anything, but can get close to all of the decorations and furniture.Throughout the yard, there are many statues and sculptures. Leslie Cheek loved art and collected many pieces. Inside the house, there is a section of art that he collected and art that he created. There is also a restaurant at the front of the museum. The yard is very large so people might want to get food when they are done walking around. There are also two gift shops that visitors can check out, including one inside the house and one at the entrance of the museum.
