Museum of Ice Cream

I went  to Chicago’s Museum of Ice Cream. There were many interesting flavors, such as hot dog ice cream. The experience was fun. There were lots of interactive exhibits, and a plethora of early ice cream technology.  But the question on everyone’s minds is the same: is the ice cream actually good?

The first ice cream in the experience was a pineapple ice cream. This ice cream was in the jelly bean themed room. There was an option to get cherry dip, but I ended up not getting it.  I think the pineapple ice cream was my favorite. The ice cream tastes just like the fruit and it’s not artificial tasting. I was a little bit upset at the fact this room didn’t have anything interactive in it, just backdrops for photos.

The second ice cream I tried was the raspberry flavor. I loved this ice cream, although I might be biased because raspberries are my favorite. What I liked most about this ice cream was its tartness. Again this room was just a photo-op.

The next ice cream I tried was birthday cake. This one was great, and was my mom’s favorite. The only part I disliked was the sprinkles; I don’t like the texture of them so I found myself spitting them out. I don’t blame the ice cream though I generally avoid sprinkles.

The fourth and, in my opinion, strangest ice cream was the hot dog ice cream. This room had putt putt golf and was themed with ketchup and mustard bottles as obstacles in the course. The ice cream was absolutely disgusting. It came with relish and mustard as a topping and a real hotdog bun. I would not wish this ice cream on my worst enemy.

After that, I had what was in my opinion the most disappointing ice cream flavor: vegan vanilla. This was a very odd ice cream. It was dyed pink, but it was not strawberry flavored so that threw me off. I understand why the museum of ice cream includes a vegan option but if you’re going to pay $50 for unlimited ice cream, you don’t want to be able to eat only one flavor.

The last ice cream I tried was lemon flavored ice cream. This disappointed me because it was really sweet and not sour like a lemon at all. This was not my thing, and I most definitely did not like this flavor.  This room was my favorite though it was fair themed and had many fun games like whack a mole and water gun games.

At the end of my experience there was a giant pool filled with plastic sprinkle shaped balls. There was no ice cream in this room but it was my favorite part of the experience and arguably the most unique thing there, so I feel it’s important to note.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Between the fun games, unlimited ice cream and cool photo opportunities, this place was worth it although it was expensive.
