Chainsaw Man

Keith Ellington, MVC writer

The long-awaited anime “Chainsaw Man” was released in the fall of 2022. The hype around the anime was huge and it had a lot to live up to. I am happy to say that it did, in fact, live up my expectations. This anime is awesome. I looked forward to it, and I got exactly what I came for.
This anime’s source material comes from the popular manga, “Chainsaw Man.” This manga was written and drawn by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was later adapted by the anime studio MAPPA. This studio is the same studio responsible for making several well-known anime series, such as “Attack on Titan,” “Jujutsu Kaisen,” and “Banana Fish.” MAPPA is known for its spectacular animation and titles they adapt into anime.
The animation is amazing. For me, it was something I have never seen before. Most of it was 2D animation, but the movements of the characters and even inanimate objects were very realistic and smooth. There was some CGI in the mix and, unlike some other fans, I personally do not mind it at all for it gives some very cool shots. CGI can look good in anime as long as it is done right, and “Chainsaw Man” did it perfectly.
The voice acting was also really great, both the Japanese with subtitles (sub) and the English version (dub). I personally first watched it in sub and watched bits of it in dub. Both were extremely good with memorable scenes thanks to the voice acting. I recommend watching it in the sub for this anime though, for it has more emotion than the dub.
The plot is good. It is really just a basic Shonen with a bit of really unique details. Shonen anime usually is an anime with a male protagonist trying to achieve a goal or dream. I enjoyed the more simplistic story, but I think it will get more exciting as the anime proceeds.
I loved this anime and I believe anime fans, new and old alike, will enjoy this as well. Everything is perfect about this anime, and even minor details are so good there is nothing to complain about. I give this anime a ten out of ten.
