Minecraft 1.18 Review

Mojang recently released a new update for their multiplayer sandbox game, Minecraft. Minecraft updated the graphics, generation, and looks of Minecraft cliffs in the new caves and cliffs update. This features new types of mountains, mountain meadow which has multiple variants of  mountains. Those variants are snowy slopes which are jagged and hard to climb, which are now the only place goats spawn, and jagged peaks which have spikes and overhangs of ice and snow. Now There are also capped peaks which are regular mountains with snow and ice on the top. Lastly, the original mountains which are just grass, dirt, stone, and trees have gotten few updates from the game developers. There are some  variants of the new and existing mountains, which are wooded, igloo, and village.

Mojang decided to split the update into two separate updates at the last second since they were not prepared for all the bugs, and decided to fix it one step at a time by adding caves first then cliffs. They added all the textures, blocks, and noises before the cave update came out. This caused glitches like diamonds above the ground, which was fixed almost instantly. They also had issues with  floating mountains, which took longer to fix due to the fact that it was a terraining update.

Personally I thought that it was unwise to wait to put in the cliffs update later because the cliffs were above ground, so any glitches would not look so bad with how the game was previously structured. By putting in the caves update first, they unfortunately had problems with structure generation and caves being inside mountains making the game less realistic instead of more realistic.
